The Headway Theme for WordPress is known for incredible flexibility, largely because of its system of leafs. With an arsenal of leafs that perform different tasks, the sky is the limit when it comes to creating a totally unique website. Maybe it’s because the leafs are something new in the world of WordPress themes, but it seems to me that a lot of people feel that the learning curve for this system is steep.
I believe that once a Headway user understands what each leaf can do and the options they have with them, the learning curve flattens out to a small bump in the road to a great website.
First though, I want to share a piece of advice that has nothing whatsoever to do with leafs or even site design. It has everything to do with you… and other Headway Theme users.
Occasionally I’ll hear people complaining about Headway. Why can’t it do this? Why is it doing that? And some seem to get really angry when they can’t always get it to create the design layout they desire. Please keep in mind that as magical as Headway is, it can’t perform design miracles. It still has a few, albeit small, limitations. And yes, every once in awhile you’re going to find that a plugin you like to use causes a conflict, or that javascript dohickey you want to add to your home page conflicts with the visual editor and does bad things. Before you grumble, scream and whine, let me say this:
Headway is a ground breaking WordPress theme. It allows you to do a ton of things that can only be accomplished normally with time consuming CSS coding. It allows changes to page layouts that isn’t available with any other theme out there (that I’m aware of). But it has limitations. Just like every piece of software you’ve ever used. It’s amazing, even magical, but it can’t brush your teeth for you. Please be realistic.
Ok, with that said, lets dive into the purpose of this post. Headway Leafs Tutorials. A series of them. By me, the Geek. I’ve decided to create a series of video tutorials that will briefly touch on each of the standard leafs (and maybe even some premium ones as I use them) showing you what they do, what options you may have and even an idea or two on how they can be used in your website design.
I’m starting with the Content Leaf below:
